The Serene Haven Rescue Centre provides a sanctuary for homeless teenage mothers and their babies. Collaborating with police, children’s officers, and magistrates from across Kenya, the centre works to rescue these young mothers and provide them with the care, protection, and resources they need to thrive.

At the Rescue Centre, teenage mothers can access:

Daycare Services: A fully equipped daycare facility that cares for their babies while they attend school or vocational training.
Comprehensive Health Care: Pre-natal, post-natal, and general mother-child healthcare services to ensure the well-being of both mother and child.
Counselling and Psychosocial Support: One-on-one counselling and group therapy sessions to offer emotional support and mental health care, helping mothers heal from trauma and rebuild their confidence.
2. Serene Haven Educational Program: Reclaiming Dreams Through Education
Education is at the heart of the Msichana Shujaa Project. Recognizing that teenage mothers face immense barriers to continuing their education, the Serene Haven Educational Program offers tailored support to ensure they have the opportunity to complete their schooling and pursue vocational or technical skills.

Key components of the program include:

School Reentry for Out-of-School Teen Mothers: Assisting teenage mothers to re-enroll in school and providing them with the academic and financial support they need to succeed.
School Fees Support: Covering school fees for vulnerable teenage mothers at all levels—primary, secondary, vocational, and college—to remove the financial barriers to education.
Vocational and Technical Training: Equipping young mothers with practical skills for sustainable employment and economic independence.
Pre-School Payments for Babies: Ensuring the babies of teenage mothers have access to quality early childhood education while their mothers pursue their studies.
Why This Mission Matters
Msichana Shujaa is a deeply personal mission, born from the experience of Serene Haven’s founder, a former teenage mother herself. Having lived through the challenges of stigma, lost educational opportunities, and poor mental health, she witnessed firsthand how young mothers are often forgotten by society. Many of her peers dropped out of school due to a lack of support from family, government, and organizations. She made it her life’s mission to provide hope and opportunities for these young women.

In Kenya, teenage pregnancy is a growing concern. Data from the Kenya Health Information System (KHIS) reveals that over 151,433 teenage girls sought pre-natal care in government hospitals between January and May 2020. Of these, 89% were unable to continue with their education due to poverty and a lack of support, even though 91% expressed a desire to return to school. By addressing these barriers, Msichana Shujaa is playing a crucial role in breaking the cycle of poverty, stigma, and limited opportunities for teenage mothers.
